Dead as Disco Save File Location, Backup & Restore Guide

This guide helps you locate the active Dead as Disco save file, create a rollback copy, restore progress after a crash or mod test, and evaluate community 100% save files. It separates confirmed current clues from older path reports so you can identify the file your own installation is actually writing before replacing anything.

Where is the Dead as Disco save file?

Start with the installation that Steam launches. Open Steam, right-click Dead as Disco, choose Manage, and use Browse local files. In the game directory, look for Pagoda\Saved\SaveGames. A developer technical-support post specifically asks players to attach this folder when reporting save problems, which makes it the strongest current path clue for the Steam build.

Do not assume that every PC uses only one path forever. Older Unreal Engine guides often place saves under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pagoda\Saved\SaveGames. Updates, compatibility layers, cloud synchronization, or a previous build can leave more than one copy. If both folders exist, launch the clean game, make a harmless progress change, exit normally, and compare the modified times. The folder that changed is the active source of truth.

Community save mods commonly refer to a file named pg_Project_1. Treat that name as a clue, not permission to overwrite the first matching file. Search the installation and LocalAppData paths, record file size and modified time, and confirm that a fresh in-game save updates the same item.

How to back up Dead as Disco progress safely

Back up while the game is fully closed. Copy the complete SaveGames folder, not only the largest file, because related metadata or profile slots may be needed together. Name the copy with the date, game state, and purpose, such as 2026-07-29-before-save-mod. Keep it outside the game directory so a verify, uninstall, or mod manager cannot remove it.

Make a second backup before a major game update, before testing a new loader, and before replacing a character or progression file. Steam Cloud is useful synchronization, but it is not the same as a versioned backup: a damaged or unwanted save can synchronize too. A local dated copy lets you decide which state to restore.

  1. Close Dead as Disco and Steam Cloud dialogsWait until the game process has ended so no file is still being written.
  2. Verify the active folderUse a recent in-game save and modified timestamp instead of relying on a copied path alone.
  3. Copy the entire SaveGames folderPreserve filenames and nested folders exactly; do not rename the live originals.
  4. Store the copy outside the gameUse Documents, another drive, or a versioned backup location with a clear date.
  5. Record the source build contextNote whether the backup was made before an official update, loader change, or 100% save test.

Restore a backup without creating a cloud conflict

Restore only after you have preserved the current live folder as a second backup. Close the game, copy the desired dated folder back into the verified active location, then launch and inspect the profile before making new progress. If Steam reports a cloud conflict, compare timestamps and choose deliberately; do not automatically select the newest entry when the newest entry is the damaged one.

Test the result in a low-risk way. Confirm unlocked content, settings, and a normal stage launch. If the game returns to a new profile, you probably restored to an inactive path or copied an extra wrapper folder. If it crashes, restore the pre-test backup and remove unrelated mods before blaming the save itself.

  • Keep the overwritten live folder until the restored profile has passed a real launch test.
  • Match the original filename exactly, including files without a visible extension.
  • Do not combine pieces from two profiles unless the save author explicitly documents that workflow.
  • If a restored save is immediately replaced, investigate Steam Cloud synchronization before repeating the copy.
  • After recovery, make a new dated backup so the known-good state is easy to identify.

Should you use a Dead as Disco 100% save file?

A 100% save can unlock completed progression quickly, but it replaces your personal progress and may reveal content you wanted to earn naturally. It can also be tied to a different game build. On July 29, 2026, Nexus showed two relevant active listings: DAD SAVE version 1.2, last updated June 24, and COMPLETE 100% save version 1.0, added June 3. Those details describe the mod listings, not guaranteed compatibility with every later build.

Use the source listing as documentation and file access, not this site. Nexus may require login and does not provide a stable anonymous direct file URL that we can truthfully verify and publish. For that reason, this page offers source links only. Read the Files, Description, Requirements, Posts, and update history before downloading, then scan the archive with your normal security tools.

The safe installation pattern is replacement with rollback: back up your active folder, inspect the archive, confirm the expected filename and destination, replace only the documented save item, and test offline from a known state. If the listing expects the Steam installation path while your active save changes under LocalAppData, stop and resolve the path difference before copying.

Fix missing, reset, or corrupted save progress

If progress appears missing, do not immediately create a new long session. Exit and inspect both likely save locations, Recycle Bin, backup software, and Steam Cloud conflict history. A new profile may overwrite evidence that the older file still exists. Copy every candidate folder to a safe location before testing any one of them.

A save that loads but crashes on one stage may be exposing a separate mod or asset conflict. Test the clean game with the same save, then remove the newest character, map, song, graphics, or loader change. A save that never appears is more likely a path, filename, slot, or cloud synchronization problem.

For reproducible corruption, use the developer technical-support thread and attach only the requested diagnostic material. Do not post personal account data or unrelated files. Include the game build context, what happened before the failure, whether Steam Cloud was active, and which folder timestamp changed.

  • Missing profile: compare install-folder and LocalAppData copies before making new progress.
  • Save resets after launch: inspect Steam Cloud conflict behavior and active-path timestamps.
  • Crash after restore: test the same save with every unrelated mod removed.
  • 100% save does nothing: check for an extra wrapper folder and confirm the exact target filename.
  • No usable backup: preserve current files, use official support guidance, and avoid random save mirrors.

Dead as Disco save file FAQ

Where is the Dead as Disco save file on PC?

Check the Steam installation folder under Pagoda\Saved\SaveGames first. If it is absent or unchanged, check %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pagoda\Saved\SaveGames and verify the active copy by making a normal save, exiting, and comparing timestamps.

What is the Dead as Disco save filename?

Community save mods commonly reference pg_Project_1, but confirm the active file on your own installation before replacing anything because paths and profiles can change.

How do I back up Dead as Disco saves?

Close the game, copy the entire active SaveGames folder to a dated location outside the installation, and keep a second copy before updates or save-mod tests.

Can I install a 100% save without losing my progress?

Only if you first preserve the complete active SaveGames folder and verify the restore process. A replacement save can overwrite personal progression and may not match the current build.

Why does Steam Cloud restore the wrong save?

Cloud synchronization may treat the newest timestamp as current even when it is unwanted. Keep both versions, compare dates, and choose deliberately when Steam presents a conflict.

Can this site directly download the Nexus save mods?

No. The files remain on Nexus Mods, may require an account, and do not expose a stable verified anonymous direct URL. This page links to the original listings only.

Source and safety note

Checked July 29, 2026. The Steam store does not expose a stable user-facing semantic version. A developer support thread points players to the installed Pagoda\Saved\SaveGames folder; older third-party guides may point to LocalAppData. Nexus currently lists active DAD SAVE and COMPLETE 100% save mods, but their files remain on Nexus and may require an account. This site does not re-host them or present a details page as a direct download.
